Texas Tuesday

Texas Tuesday

Well y'all  all good things come to an end. Today is the last link up for Texas Tuesday.
The wonderful ladies are putting it on the back burner. Their youngin's are keeping them busy with
other life changes. New adventures have come their way. I am so excited for them both and look forward to reading the posts that will detail their new discoveries in life.

So what to blog about today?

There are so many things in Texas.
We have the gulf coast, and the miles and miles of West Texas. The trees of East Texas.
The miles and miles of lakes. From Lake Sam Rayburn in the East to Falcon lake in
South Texas/Mexico.  Lake Austin to Lake Fort Worth. Possum Kingdom to Livingston.
We have some of the best.

Cities....
Yep those are the biggest and best also.
Houston is listed as the #1 shopping city by Forbes which I defiantly agree with.
Plus in my opinion it is the best city in Texas!
Of course that will bring you into a long time feud with Dallas! Everyone from Dallas tends to think they are better than Houston. It is a fun time. But like any good family. We can pick on each other, but lord help you if you pick on the State of Texas!
We will back each other up! Just as the slogan goes, "Don't Mess With Texas"
Also like every family, the State of Texas has the weird ones. We call them Austin!
You can even buy memorabilia that claims to "Keep Austin Weird"!
Like any family you always go to that one place to gather. We call that San Antonio.
It is the #1 tourist attraction in the U.S.A. and since it is in our own backdoor we tend to go visit also.

Country...
We have miles of that also. From the small towns of Gruene to Canton.
From El Paso to Texarkana. You can find small towns everywhere.
Some may be wet and some are dry. But we are all happy to be Texans!

So I guess I answered my own question.
Blog about the people and the whole state of Texas.
After all,
It is a whole other country!

Let's Decorate, Texas style...

Texas Tuesday Time!

Decorating Texas style has been something that I really never gave much thought to as it was normal.
However, being a retired Army wife and living in many states with other people from other states
and even other countries. I came to realize just how proud of our state Texans are. In all the years
of military housing, I believe whenever you walked into a Texans house you knew it. It was decorated with either a combination of a clock shaped in the Texas state shape. A sign explaining the ever popular sayings  "God Bless Texas" or possibly "Texan spoken here".

This got me to thinking that I would share with you a few things that I found on Pinterest that
I either have the exact same thing. (giggles) Not sure why but I enjoy seeing that I have good taste.
I also thought I would share with you a few of our special Texas style of decorating.

Texas Tuesday! Lonestar Beer

Texas Tuesday

Well y'all I have been trying to blog all day!
It just didn't seem like nothing would go right.
 Don't you hate those days?

So when you have a day like that you decide to blog about alcohol.
Well I do anyways.

Does any other state have a beer?

If so let me know?

How cool is it that Texas, The Lone Star State
has a beer?

The only place you can buy it is in Texas.

As a retired military wife,
Let me tell you,
If crossing state lines with Lonestar Beer is indeed
against the law well....

Did ya know that not only is this a great beer but it has
won awards Nationally.

In 2010 it won a bronze medal at the
Wold Beer Cup
for American Style Cream Ale or Lager..

So not only non-Texans jealous
but the world is jealous.
At least thats what the website claims.

TEXAS HAIR!

Texas Tuesday

Yep...
You read that right!
What other state but our great state of

Texas...

Has their very own hair style?

None!

It may have a little something to do with the weather and humidity
but hey,
a girl has to use whatever the good lord has given us.
After all,

God Blessed Texas...
(we have  songs that say so!)

Texas Tuesday ~ First Monday

Texas Tuesday

Did you know that the longest running Swap Meet and the largest Flea Market
is right here in Texas?

Most Texans know this but it amazes me how many have not ever been.

An antiques collector and all around lover of the unusual, this is my heaven on earth. They say, "If you can't find it on 1st Monday, then it probably has yet
to be invented"

Last year before Christmas some of my girlfriends went and I was
able to not only get some wonderful Christmas gifts but also
some really cute blinged out tops and shoes.

I also found some of the most unique Christmas decorations.

1st Monday has ran continuously since the 1850's so they must be doing something right.  They have over a thousand vendors with over hundreds of thousand of guests in the 4 day event once a month. Some booths are in Pavilions where as others are just outside on the grass.

To check more out on first Monday click here and it will take you to the main
website.

Here are a few pictures that I pinned off of Pinterest to give you
a little visual idea of some of the craziness of first Monday.

cause you are defiantly mission the boat!

Have a wonderful 4th of July tomorrow my lovelies!

Did the Margarita get its name in Texas?

Texas Tuesday

Today's Texas Tuesday's link up is a question into the
famous question, how did the drink Margarita get it's name.

Did you know that one of the four myths actually took place in Texas?

Wikipedia lists the myth as one of the four of many stories of how the drink we
love with our Mexican food received it's name.

Going back to 1948 the famous Balinese Room nightclub
that was frequented by many celebrities of that area and
also known as an illegal gaming room that
was located inside the Balinese Nightclub.

The story goes that a bartender by the name of Santos Cruz Sr.
came up with the famous blend using tequila instead of the
more popular liquor of the time Brandy.
His reasoning is for the beautiful singer Peggy Lee.
She was not a fan of brandy. It is said in several readings that
Peggy's husband is the one that actually named
it the "Margarita" as Peggy's real name is Margaret which
translates into Margarita in the spanish language.

In many readings the Balinese room is listed as the name of the famous club.
However, I found that in Santos Cruz Sr's Obituary that the
club was called the "Studio Lounge"

Regardless of who named it and what the club was called I for one
am just happy that someone created it.

I found some neat pictures that I thought I would share with you
today of then and now and some of those famous celebrities
that frequented the island of Galveston as on of the places to see and be seen
among the elite of that time.

Do you recognize these famous people?

Peggy Lee

Frank Sinatra

Bob Hope

Duke Ellington

Jane Mansfield

Then (1948)

The rebuilt Balinese room since Hurricane Ike destroyed it completely
in 2008.

Are you a Margarita drinker?
If not, what is your favorite drink?

Texas Tuesday

Texas Tuesday

Linking up with these wonderful ladies for a new link up that is
all about Texas! How cool is that?
For us Texans, it is all about the symbol.
I say that for one reason.

What other state has a shape so cool, that people make
everything out of it! From cake pans to wall clocks, you can find the
shape of Texas everywhere. Then again it is also the attitude. We are proud people.
One thing that I have found in many travels, no matter if you are acting a fool...
you can say that you are from Texas and people reply, "OH" it's accepted.
We are suppose to be loud and crazy!
Yet on the flip side of that, you can be all dolled up to the hilt.
Wear all your night time bling during the day, and that's all right also,
why you ask?

Because, we are from TEXAS that is why!
Only explanation we ever need. It explains it all.

Okays so enough about that. When the theme was first announced for the
link up, I was so excited! Then the flood of what to do first. Which didn't last long,
only as long as it took for me to reach over and grab for my Dr Pepper!

WACO TEXAS
THE HOME OF 23 FLAVORS OF
YUMMY GOODNESS
DR PEPPER

My favorite two pictures as of late...

Did you know that Dr. Pepper is one year older than Coca Cola?
Sure is... Since 1885

Dr. Pepper got it's first major exposure at the World's Fair
in St. Louis in 1904

In 1923 the current owners decided to move Dr. Pepper to Dallas.

In the 1950's the period was dropped after "Dr" for several reasons.
One reason was it interfered with log designs. The period looked smudged.
The second was to keep people from thinking that it had medical value.

Not sure which jingle has been the most popular for the company but
I  think in my opinion that "I'm a Pepper" has to be.
At least it is my favorite. I remember as a little girl getting
up and dancing around signing it whenever the commercial came on.
In case you don't know what I am talking about;

I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper,
She's a Pepper, we're a Pepper.
Wouldn't you like to be a pepper, too?

I love Jelly Belly
I get these every time we go to Bass Pro Shop!
